Commvault Cloud Rewind (formerly known as Appranix) provides continuous discovery and protection of your applications running in AWS complete with their configuration data and any dependencies -- enabling you to revert your full cloud environment to its last known-good state. With Cloud Rewind you get the unprecedented ability to turn back the clock to a point-in-time before a breach, outage, or configuration change occurred and return to business as usual.
Commvault Cloud Rewind goes beyond backup and recovery of simple compute instances, filesystems, and databases to offer end-to-end protection of complex, composable, cloud-native applications. It enables automated, point-in-time recovery of full application environments, complete with configuration data and metadata. The result is true cloud-native cyber resilience with rapid rebuild capabilities that minimize downtime, drastically reduce MTTR, and enable faster restoration of business operations.
Cloud Rewind continuously discovers and maps the dependencies of cloud resources within your application environment. It protects all the discovered configurations, dependencies, and application data with configurable policies to align with your organizations RPO requirements. This includes VPCs, subnets, load balancers, security groups, route tables and other important cloud constructs. This data is stored in an isolated, air-gapped tenant managed by Commvault for added security and greater recoverability.
After an application outage or disruption, organizations can rapidly recover applications or rebuild entire application environments on-demand with customized precision. Cloud Rewind uses native AWS CloudFormation Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) to automate orchestrated, point-in-time restores of application environments. Recovery can be done across Availability Zones, Regions, and accounts, providing flexibility to restore operations faster or use Cloud Rewind to test recovery of live production environments to improve your organizations cyber readiness.
Commvault Cloud Rewind is available as an AWS-based SaaS offering so you can easily get started in minutes without the need to deploy or manage infrastructure.

You pay per instance per hour, so your cost tracks how many instances you protect and how long they run. The five dimensions are volume tiers based on instance count. One tier covers up to 10,000 instances, then up to 25,000, up to 50,000, and up to 100,000. A separate tier applies when you exceed 100,000 instances. As your instance count grows, you move into the matching tier. This usage-based model lets your spend scale up or down with actual protected workloads rather than a fixed commitment.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What counts as one instance for billing?
An instance is a cloud resource you protect, such as a virtual machine or tagged workload. You tag your cloud instances for protection, and each protected instance meters separately. The count reflects how many resources you actively protect, including virtual machines across your VPCs.
Do I pay when protected instances are stopped or a DR site sits idle?
Billing runs per instance per hour, so cost tracks the hours your protected instances run. Charges reflect actual protected workloads rather than a fixed commitment. Underlying AWS storage or replication resources may still incur separate AWS fees, but the software meters your protected instance-hours.
When I cross a tier boundary, does the new rate apply to all instances?
Each tier covers a stated instance-count range, and you fall into the tier matching your total protected count. The applicable per-instance-per-hour rate for that tier applies to your instances. As your count grows past a boundary, you move into the next range automatically.

What do you like best about the product?
The best part of Appranix is the ability to automatically blueprint entire cloud environments using all the meta-data configurations and dependencies. As the cloud environments change fast, protecting applications' data within the specified RPO without taking the data from production environments is very important. Appranix is able to leverage all the cloud-native data infrastructure capabilities to protect all the key resources as well as critical application data with aggressive RPO and recover the entire application environment with a much lower RTO than what was possible in the datacenter.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is working as per our needs at the moment. We are going them feedback as we move along and they are taking feedback seriously and implementing it.
